#10: The Gentlemen's Ploy, Time to Panic?

9/2/2025

I met with Matt, the director, last week. It seems that Matt has discovered that I write a blog. I’m afraid this will cramp my style more than somewhat. I am used to writing outrageous things about him and now I will have to tone it down. Possibly even keep it truthful.

I asked Matt if we had a musical director. He said, no. I asked him if we should panic. He said, not yet. But I don’t know. I think I may go ahead and panic now and save myself the trouble later on. I tell you, either this city has so much theater going on that all the musical directors figure they can hold out for a better gig or they’ve all retired. I don’t know which. In any case, we’re putting on a musical, so we need a musical director!

Matt did say that he had leads on a costume designer and a choreographer. Indeed, as we were sitting there his phone pinged and he discovered we have a choreographer. Hooray! We now have a fight coordinator and a choreographer, so if worse comes to worst we can do the show as a dance with sword play.

But we need a musical director.

Not that I’m panicking.

Yet.

In the meantime, I have workers coming this week to get my house ready for painting. Consequently I will have strangers marauding through my house for two days, banging and sawing and who knows what. I count on my house being a refuge from the noise and bustle of the outside world, and now the outside world is invading.

If I survive this, it will be a miracle.
